Description
Novocaine Solution 2%
(Injection Solution)
Description: Clear, colorless solution.
Composition: 100 ml contain active ingredient:
novocaine – 5,0 mg.
Excipients: water for injection.
Pharmacological Properties:
Novocaine belongs to the group of local anesthetics. Novocaine prevents generation of impulses in sensorial nerves endings and along nerve fibers; inhibits both painful and other impulses; intravenous administrated, affects generally the animal body; reduces acetylcholine formation and decreases affectability of peripheral cholinergic systems; provides a blocking effect on autonomic ganglion; reduces smooth muscles spasms; reduces irritability of heart muscle and the brain motor areas; causes excitation in toxic doses, followed by central nervous system paralysis.
Fast hydrolyzed, forming PABA and diethylaminoethanol, being pharmacologically active substances.
Fast and acute, when administrated.
Indication:
Infiltration anesthesia in the form of 0,125%‑0,5% solution, previously diluted with sterile saline to the desired concentration.
In ophthalmology, Novocaine solution 0,5% is used for keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, periodic inflammation of horses eyes (intraorbital block).
In obstetric-gynecological practice, solutions of novocaine are prescribed for endometritis, metritis, metrocolposele, placenta retention of cows, serous-catarrhal mastitis in the form of 0,25%‑0,5% solution.
Used also as drugs solvent.
Dosing Guidance:
Used subcutaneously, intramuscularly, intravenously, intra-aortal.
The maximum dose, ml per animal:
horses 125;
large cattle 100;
horned cattle 37;
pigs 37;
dogs 25.
Administrated repeatedly according to indications, not earlier than 24 hours after the first administration.
Warning: Solution concentration, dose, application method depend on surgery nature or disease course; animal type, weight, age and condition.
By local anesthesia, the toxicity of novocaine is higher, the more concentrated the solution is. Due to that, when increasing solution concentration, the total dose is reduced or diluted with a standard solution of the preparation at a lower concentration (0,125% -0,25%) with sterile saline 0,9% or Ringer’s solution. The dilutions are prepared immediately before use.
Contraindications: Not established, except for individual hypersensitivity to novocaine.
Drug form: Glass containers with flip-off caps of 100 ml, 200 ml, 400 ml.
Storage: Dry, dark place, out of children’s reach, 2 to 25 °С.
Shelf life: 3 years.
